CoolIris has been around for about a year. I thought that they were the coolest thing since sliced bread until I saw Zoomarama. Namely b/c they use 3D space to allow you to navigate large datasets very quickly. It's simply a much better way to explore sets of images...makes going back to using Flickr's UI extremely painful. The problem is that you have to install the app and host sites have to enable it by inserting some javascript code on their servers. I'm sure these two adoption barriers are killing them - along with an unclear business model. Recently they've added all kinds of datafeeds such as Shopping, news, and more... probably trying to grab more of your attention for longer for the purposes of advertising or affiliate sales?
